**Why EFNE?**
EFNE (Epilepsy Foundation New England) profoundly impacts the lives of those living with epilepsy by dedicating itself to improving the quality of life for individuals and families affected by seizures in our community.
Epilepsy and seizures can affect anyone, at any stage of life. Seizures are more common among children, the elderly, individuals with brain tumors, diabetes, or dementia, and, of course, those diagnosed with epilepsy.
Under the right circumstances, anyone can experience a seizure—making it a condition that touches more lives than many realize.
1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime. Despite this prevalence, most people know little about what to do during a seizure or the life-changing implications that often follow. A seizure can be a traumatic and life-altering event, not just for the person experiencing it but for their loved ones. EFNE steps in to provide crucial support, reducing the impact of epilepsy and helping individuals and families rediscover joy and normalcy.
The Foundation offers a wide range of services, including:
- Traditional summer camps for children in a seizure-safe environment
- Immediate financial assistance for families in need
- A robust network of support groups
- Access to doctors and researchers advancing epilepsy care
- Seizure safety planning in schools
- Advocacy efforts
- Community fundraising events to sustain and expand these programs
EFNE delivers both the immediate help needed today and the hope for a brighter tomorrow. As someone who has personally witnessed the transformative effects of EFNE, their unwavering commitment to our community inspires me, their dedication to improving lives, and their innovative approach to epilepsy care.
Despite its widespread impact, epilepsy remains underfunded compared to many other diseases—even as advancements in neurology present incredible opportunities for progress. Supporting EFNE means making a difference today while investing in the future of epilepsy care and research.
There is no cause closer to my heart or community I am prouder to represent. I am honored to run 26.2 miles supporting everyone battling epilepsy, and I invite you to join me in championing this vital mission.
Together, we can make a lasting impact.
